More US Lies and Waffling

Now that Iraq has released a 12,000 page document the US suddenly doesn’t want to present any evidence it says it has. Where is the evidence and why is the Bush syndicate scared to share the information? Simple answer, the US government is lying through its proverbial teeth. Props to Iraq for playing the politics game with equal if not more adept skill than the legions of professional liars in the Bush administration.

US withholds weapons data from inspectors:

The Bush administration has told United Nations inspectors that it will not provide them with intelligence information on suspected weapons sites in Iraq, as agreed in the UN resolution on inspections, until it examines the weapons declaration Baghdad has submitted.

The comments by Mohamed ElBaradei, Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and one of the two senior inspectors, reflects growing tension between the inspectors, along with some other members of the Security Council, and the White House as inspections have begun and visible US preparations for war continue.

Both Dr ElBaradei and chief UN inspector Hans Blix have expressed consternation over the increasing US insistence that it has firm evidence that Iraq is lying when it says it has no weapons of mass destruction, while at the same time refusing to share that evidence with the inspectors – as Mr Bush pledged to do.

    US Gov. Seeks Propaganda Minister

NY Times: Lawmakers Want Cabinet Post for an Intelligence Director:

The leaders stopped short of endorsing one of the most contentious ideas for intelligence change being widely debated in Washington — the creation of an additional domestic intelligence agency like the British MI-5 — even as they recognized the F.B.I.’s weaknesses in conducting domestic counterterrorism operations. But they said they were open to further study of such proposals.

The idea of creating an American version of MI-5 has gained support as the Bush administration, Congress and outside experts have all tried to grapple with the difficulties of tracking terrorists once they are inside the United States. Widespread criticism of the F.B.I.’s performance before Sept. 11 raised questions about whether counterterrorism operations should be stripped from the bureau and turned over to an independent agency. Still, deep concerns over civil liberties and other constitutional issues have made both the administration and Congress reluctant to endorse the idea.

The proposal to create a director of national intelligence closely mirrors legislation introduced last summer by Senator Dianne Feinstein, Democrat of California. Ms. Feinstein said in June that a director of national intelligence was necessary to “coordinate our intelligence and antiterrorism efforts” and to make certain that “the sort of communication problems that prevented the various elements of our intelligence community from working together effectively before Sept. 11 never happen again.”

    Germany slashes defence spending

    From Telegraph, UK:

The German government yesterday announced sweeping cuts in its defence spending in a move that will infuriate Nato and hamper plans to reshape the army for modern warfare.

The defence minister, Peter Struck, said the German army, air force and navy had to make drastic cuts in equipment and slim down their organisational structures to save resources.

    Interesting slice of life

Old South Goes With the Wind: Entrepreneur and His Workers Reflect Region’s Racial Transformation

Indians now own 60 of the 208 Dairy Queens in Georgia. Half of Riz’s workforce is Indian. “Forget the white kids with the studs in the tongue,” Riz says. “Indians are gonna work for you. At the beginning, they work for minimum wage. Then little raise, little raise, slowly, slowly. Everyone live together; they are saving money, six people in household working, they bank 80 percent of their money and use 20 percent for expenses. They don’t drink, no clubs, no fancy clothes. Suddenly, they have $60,000 in the bank. Then they will buy the Subway or the Blimpie.”

But Riz worries about the second generation. No vision. Where’s the next young entrepreneur ready to climb out of the low-wage landscape? “These people just want to be the Riz,” says Riz with concern. “You can’t copy the Riz. You must build your own entity. The second generation wants the short cut.”

    The Butcher of Crawford

I really hate Bush and everything he represents. Stupidity, hypocrisy, self-righteousness, arrogance, deceit. Hate is too strong a word, but I am bothered and disgusted by the way in which this man and his cronies have planned and plotted this war we are about to start. A war against a weak and poor nation whose despotic leader we supported for decades. A war that has been in the works for who knows how long, at least a long time before ‘9-11’. A war by a group of bullies who lead a credulous people into believing that what they do is right and proper and justified instead of being honest that we want something they have.

We are about to commit murder. The taxes we funnel into this criminal enterprise will be used to destroy human beings. People who want nothing more than to keep on waking up every day. Some of our own people may even die. Although, I don’t see the difference in value between an American life and an Iraqi life. How can we pretend to cherish life and freedom while supporting murderers of people?

If I believed in a just God I would pray for something unlawful, but I’m not even sure that prayer, that act of thought crime, if granted would do much if anything to change things. As long as people can be deceived by a worthless fraud of a man nothing will change. As long as we value the life of an American over the life of another human being nothing will change. What can we offer this world if we are nothing but bullies and cowards?

    Jobless Rate Hits 6%

The unemployment rate has hit its highest levels in 9 years. That’s not even taking into account the millions of people who have to work 2 jobs each to support their families. The Bush administration offered up two scapegoats, Paul O’Neill and Lawrence Lindsey, to cover for its complete and utter lack of economic initiative or sound policy. Who woulda thunk it that a huge tax cut to the richest Americans would fail so miserably? The richest Americans, even from a capitalist perspective, don’t create jobs unless you consider cleaning mansions a good job. This is a bad sign of things to come. On the other hand, if we hit 10% unemployment maybe people will start looking to hang someone from the streetlights in Washington and things might get done.

    US Occupation in Afghanistan

Our interests are not served by oppressing an entire people. Now we’re spreading out into other parts of Afghanistan not controlled by the American warlord ‘President’ Hamid Karzai.

US plans security enclaves in dozen Afghan cities: Report:

The Pentagon has decided to create security enclaves in a dozen or so Afghan cities instead of being confined to Kabul in order to let American military and aid officials operate safely in the war-ravaged country.

US engineers, diplomats and aid workers protected by American and British troops will deploy this month in Gardez in Eastern Afghanistan to set up the first of several enclaves intended as hubs for reconstruction efforts, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.

According to the daily, some State Department officials suggested that if successful in Afghanistan, the approach could be used in Iraq in the event of a regime change there.

What would I do without Infowars.com?

    For example:

Violence Against Police Hits 4-Year High — Using Fear to Militarize the Police and Designate American People as the Enemy. Here’s the truth in their own words, “Fewer police are being killed in the line of duty than there were 30 years ago,” Floyd said. “We’ve got more police on the street than we’ve ever had.

C’mon America, I know we can do better than that. But seriously, what they don’t mention in that headline, irresponsibly I think as Infowars points out, is that many of these cops died in automobile accidents.

Home Depot: Wage-slaves to be replaced by consumer drones

Via Infowars.com CNN: Check yourself out at Home Depot:

ATLANTA, Georgia (AP) — The Home Depot’s do-it-yourself clientele can now do it themselves at the checkout counter as part of a technology upgrade the company promises will make for shorter lines and faster service. …

The technology also could help Home Depot with a proposal it announced earlier this year to shift more employees from full-time to part-time status, Lewis said.

Four self-service checkout terminals are being set up in about 800 city locations to replace two or three employee-operated stations. The company also is buying performance software to assess cashiers’ skills.

Sixty percent of Home Depot staff are full-time. The other 40 percent are part-time.

Company spokesman Don Harrison said the retailer’s move to self-checkout is not an attempt to cut staff.

“Nobody is losing a job or being displaced as a result of this,” he said. “We can always use help back in the aisles waiting on customers. Will it mean a shift toward more part-time work? I don’t know.”

At one Atlanta Home Depot store, restaurant manager Mike Clark, 35, used the self-checkout to buy a snow shovel and a rake in less than three minutes.

“I look at it like you are getting four machines for the price of one employee,” Clark said. “It’s very efficient.”

Part-time work is good for corporations, no benefits to pay for. And shoot, in most of my many part-time jobs I was forced to work nearly 40 hours a week. The only difference is I didn’t get health or retirement benefits and my hours could be cut if they didn’t need as many people. Most people who work part-time have either another full or part-time job.
