More Israeli assassinations and executions

When will the stupidity end? Wash. Post:

Some of the seven commanders were killed under an Israeli policy of targeting Palestinian militia chiefs, one tactic the military uses to punish militants for attacks on Israel and to deter future killings and assaults. In at least two cases, including one today, Palestinians said the local leaders were executed by Israeli soldiers. The Israeli army said both were shot while trying to escape.

The Lidless Eye

Official: Russia to Monitor TV [for subliminal messages]:

All Russian TV channels will be screened for extra video frames containing subliminal messages by the end of the year, a broadcasting official said Wednesday.

Deputy Press Minister Valery Sirozhenko told ITAR-Tass news agency that special monitoring equipment would monitor channels inserting extra frames, amid growing reports of their use on Russian airwaves. Violators could face fines or have their broadcast licenses revoked, ITAR-Tass said.

The news agency said unofficial data suggests a fifth of Russian TV programs have extra frames, containing messages ranging from those urging viewers not to switch channels to political ads.

Woman sacked for revealing UN links with sex trade

Child sex-slavery, all paid for by the United States.

She was sacked after disclosing that UN peacekeepers went to nightclubs where girls as young as 15 were forced to dance naked and have sex with customers, and that UN personnel and international aid workers were linked to prostitution rings in the Balkans.

After a two-year battle, an employment tribunal ruled yesterday that Ms Bolkovac was unfairly dismissed by DynCorp, an American company whose branch in Salisbury, Wiltshire, dealt with the contracts of the American officers working for the international police force in Bosnia. There will be a further hearing at Southampton to decide the amount of compensation DynCorp must pay Ms Bolkovac.

During her time in Bosnia as an investigator, Ms Bolkovac, 41, uncovered evidence of girls who refused to have sex being beaten and raped in bars by their pimps while peacekeepers stood and watched. She discovered that one UN policeman who was supposed to be investigating the sex trade paid £700 to a bar owner for an underage girl who he kept captive in his apartment to use in his own prostitution racket.

War: The Laboratory of Sadists

Our own home-grown Dr. Mengele’s in the US are itching to test the newest killing machines in the planned charade which will be known as ‘Gulf War 2’, likely lauded in history books as GWII or Revenge of Bush Jr. What’s the good of wasting trillions on defense spending if you can’t blow up homes or decapitate people with cluster bombs?

No freedom, no independence, just power politics

If the US and Turkey have their way, there will be no independent Kurdish state. The Turks have mistreated Kurds since the creation of Turkey. Turkey, a strong American ally, gassed the Kurds just like Iraq did during the ‘Gulf War’. What most American leaders fail to mention is that the Kurds were gassed because the US had planned to use them as a proxy force to take Baghdad just like the US used the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan.

US’s Iraq war could go nuclear

If the US does a hit on Iraq and Iraq responds by launching scuds at Israel, Israel might become the second nation in human history to use atomic weapons on human beings. The first was of course the United States.

An assessment of Iraq’s capabilities says that the US is unlikely to knock out many, if any, of President Saddam Hussein’s mobile missile-launchers in a first wave of airstrikes. It raises the possibility of Baghdad hitting an Israeli city with a missile carrying biological agents, saying that Saddam is likely to use chemical and biological weapons.

Israel’s likely reaction would be nuclear ground bursts against every Iraqi city not already occupied by US-led coalition forces. Senators were told that, unlike the 1991 Gulf War, when Washington urged Israel not to retaliate against Iraqi missile strikes, Israeli leaders have decided that their credibility would be hurt if they failed to react this time.

It doesn’t seem that the possibility of thousands of civilian casualties is in any way deterring the US from its single-minded march to war. Furthermore, if this is true it doesn’t suggest that the US is in any way attempting to restrain the hand of Israel. These right-ling nutjobs in the US would love to hasten armageddon.

    The Crushing Boot

Pentagon plan seeks countries’ OK to attack cells:

A new Pentagon counterterrorism plan calls for making arrangements with some foreign countries to allow U.S. commandos on their soil to attack terrorist cells.

Two senior U.S. officials with knowledge about the planning say Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld wants such procedures in place so special operations forces can act on intelligence in hours, not days or weeks. The sources said it is too early to predict whether such agreements can be worked out with all nations where al Qaeda cells exist.

Senior defense officials also want such clandestine missions deemed acts of war so they stay outside the control of civilian law enforcement, the officials said.

Mothers stop breast feeds too soon

This article from the BBC made me realize how rarely I actually see women breastfeeding in public. Is our society so schizophrenic that we influence women to be ashamed or embarrassed to breastfeed in public? Breastfeeding has been shown to have enormous benefit for both mother and child. I found this statistic troubling:

Although 69% of mothers initially breastfeed, 21% of these stop within the first fortnight and another 36% within the next six weeks.

They don’t call it ‘mother’s milk’ for nothing!

    Congresswoman meets A-bomb victims

    From Japan Times:

She said the resolution for the U.S. attack on Afghanistan was unlike past declarations of war or resolutions to use force. It granted very broad powers to the president, authorizing him to use force against unnamed persons, nations and groups within an infinite time frame, she said.

“I could not support such a broad grant of war-making authority to the president,” she said. “Only Congress can declare war, based upon our constitution.”

Although all appropriate steps must be taken to bring the perpetrators to justice and to prevent possible terrorist attacks, Lee said, the U.S. should not resort to military actions that involve the loss of more innocent lives.
