Yankee GO home

From the BBC:

“A group of South Korean students has stormed a US Army base in Seoul in a protest over a traffic accident last month which killed two schoolgirls.”

The US has 37,000 troops stationed in South Korea. Why? The Koreans don’t want them there. The cold war is over. North Korea is crippled. Why are we there wasting tax dollars and creating enmity?

White House seeking Iraqi ties to Al-Quaeda

This war is sick. There is no connection between Al-Quaeda and Iraq. If there were the US would have already invaded Iraq to secure the oil riches there. There are definite ties between the US and Al-Quaeda, but no one wants to talk about that. From USA Today:

WASHINGTON — Bush administration lawyers have concluded that establishing a link between al-Qaeda terrorists and Iraq would provide the legal justification the White House needs to attack Saddam Hussein’s regime, U.S. officials say.

An intensive effort by U.S. intelligence to establish a link between al-Qaeda and Iraq is being driven, in part, by a conclusion reached in recent weeks by White House and Pentagon legal and legislative advisers. They believe that connecting Iraq and the Sept. 11 attacks would allow the administration to avoid debates at the United Nations and in Congress over what some would call an unprovoked strike.

The administration has sought the connection since the first days after Sept. 11.

Post-war murder syndrome?

In Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, there have been 2 murders and 2 murder/suicides by soldiers of the US Special Forces within the past six weeks. Each case involved the murder of a military wife at the hands of her husband. Can this be what happens when you spend years molding men into cold-blooded killing machines, human weapons? Once you pass the point of justifying the taking of human life for purposes of war doesn’t that make it easier to justify it further? The Army wants to make sure we understand that this is an anomaly. Any bloodthirst is, of course, channeled cleanly toward enemies of the United States.

Hunt for bin Laden goes online

Cyber-pigs and cyber-feds are upturning online stones looking for bin Laden. Forgive me if I’m a little skeptical but I really don’t see bin Laden inserting steganographic secrets in porno as this article suggests. Can’t they at least show us some actual examples or evidence of this? I’m tired of hearing all these stories and news bites from nameless ‘counterterrorism experts’ and ‘unnamed government sources’. The fact is, if the government actually knew anything they would do something and parade this guy on TV for propaganda purposes.

The Corporate Takeover of Iraq by Bush Inc.

Newsmax is reporting that Saddam Hussein plans to invite U.N. Inspectors back to Iraq in August. If this is true and the U.N. does resume inspections expect the Bush administration to miraculously discover new evidence linking Hussein to Al Quaeda. Bush has a major hard-on to depose Hussein and get his oily friends into Iraq. This can’t be done until Iraq becomes a pliant, pro-U.S. vassal state.

American boot to remain on Iraq’s neck for one year

…as an American force occupies Iraq to ensure ‘stability’. Pardon me if I think this is crap.

AMERICAN troops would occupy Iraq for at least a year after toppling President Saddam Hussein to ensure the transition to a democratic regime, under plans being drawn up by the Bush Administration.

Of course, Bush has a different view of what constitutes a democratic regime than most people.

Perpetual War means we need your children

NEW LAW LETS ARMY GET INFO ON HIGH SCHOOL KIDS:

    — U.S. military recruiters have the authority to demand that education officials turn over the names, addresses and phone numbers of high-school students under a new federal law.
President Bush’s “No Child Left Behind” law orders school bosses from New York and across the country to comply with the new edict – or risk losing federal funds. …

But U.S. Rep. John Isakson (R-Ga.) told The Post he pushed for the amendment after a school district in his area refused to provide military recruiters with information to contact students, which he found reprehensible.

If you’re reading this and you’re not yet 18, do not register for selective service. It is unconstitutional. I wish I had known better. Do not let anyone tell you it is your patriotic duty to commit murder.

Blowback or Orwellian calculation?

CIA funneled Islamic terrorists into the United States for training:

The mystery about the bizarre situation disappeared around 1994, well after his departure from the foreign service. A one-time colleague told him Saudi Arabia was being used to funnel Islamic militants to the United States for training before heading for the battlefield in Afghanistan. “I got the whole story and it all hung together,” he said.

“They were running people (to the consulate) from the CIA’s recruiting office,” he said, obviously exasperated that he wasn’t told at the time. He said the entire consular operation was run by the CIA. The State Department had no comment on Springmann’s allegations except to say final authority over visa decisions rests with the consular officer in charge, not with Springmann, a junior officer. Looking back on his experience in Jiddah, Springmann said he found the idea of using the Jiddah consulate as a US gateway for Islamic militants to be “sleazy and disreputable.”
