Friday Five, from a few fridays ago

Why? Because I didn’t like the latest one and I thought it would be cool after reading over at Bellis’ site. Thanks Bellis!

  1. What is your most prized material possession?

It would either have to be something useful and expensive like my laptop. Or, it would have to be something sentimental and irreplaceable like the large box of letters I have in my closet (letters are those things people wrote before email) or my photographs. Although lately I’ve been on this ‘stop living in the past’ thing and have been throwing away a lot of crap I’ve been hauling around for years because it had sentimental value. Most of it really was just crap. I kept it for the same reasons I had a blankie when I was a little kid. Security. Well, security doesn’t really exist. Not only that, maybe it shouldn’t.

  2. What item, that you currently own, have you had the longest?

Mister Rabbit, but he’s not really an object. He’s Mister Rabbit. My grandma made him when I was newly born. He is crocheted and has backwards feet and a bow-tie. He’s long and skinny like me. At one time, he had eyes, a nose, and teeth. Now he looks like a burn victim. He’s still cool though.

  3. Are you a packrat?

Ask any one of my friends. God. I’m recovering. It’s a slow process facilitated by moving a lot this year. Let’s put it this way, when I last moved I had four antique typewriters. Now, after giving two to my very grateful brazilian neighbor, I have two. Oops I had five in the beginning which means I have three now. There all in my trunk. Don’t remind me about that please. They’re stowed next to the bag of clothes I’ve yet to drop by Goodwill.

  4. Do you prefer a spic-and-span clean house? Or is some clutter necessary to avoid the appearance of a museum?

Clutter is a must. Otherwise I’ll be freaked out about cleaning until it’s dirty again. Plus I just have too much damn stuff. Way too many books for one person with a job.

  5. Do the rooms in your house have a theme? Or is it a mixture of knick-knacks here and there?

The theme is something I like to call: ‘Single man in twenties with low-paying job and lots of crap’. Plus, I’m not a real grownup. I have a roommate and just one room to myself.
