Here’s to all you romantic devils

To his Coy Mistress
by Andrew Marvell

Had we but world enough, and time,
This coyness, lady, were no crime.
We would sit down and think which way
To walk, and pass our long love’s day;
Thou by the Indian Ganges’ side
Shouldst rubies find; I by the tide
Of Humber would complain. I would
Love you ten years before the Flood;
And you should, if you please, refuse
Till the conversion of the Jews.
My vegetable love should grow
Vaster than empires, and more slow.
An hundred years should go to praise
Thine eyes, and on thy forehead gaze;
Two hundred to adore each breast,
But thirty thousand to the rest;
An age at least to every part,
And the last age should show your heart.
For, lady, you deserve this state,
Nor would I love at lower rate.

But at my back I always hear
Time’s winged chariot hurrying near;
And yonder all before us lie
Deserts of vast eternity.
Thy beauty shall no more be found,
Nor, in thy marble vault, shall sound
My echoing song; then worms shall try
That long preserv’d virginity,
And your quaint honour turn to dust,
And into ashes all my lust.
The grave’s a fine and private place,
But none I think do there embrace.

Now therefore, while the youthful hue
Sits on thy skin like morning dew,
And while thy willing soul transpires
At every pore with instant fires,
Now let us sport us while we may;
And now, like am’rous birds of prey,
Rather at once our time devour,
Than languish in his slow-chapp’d power.
Let us roll all our strength, and all
Our sweetness, up into one ball;
And tear our pleasures with rough strife
Thorough the iron gates of life.
Thus, though we cannot make our sun
Stand still, yet we will make him run.

Conservative propaganda machine

From WRH, ABC and the rise of Rush Limbaugh:

Rush Limbaugh explains his success as the result of his individualism, of his refusal to do it someone’s else’s way. But the fact is that his success has been orchestrated, financed and promoted by Capital Cities/ABC. He also seems extraordinarily well-connected to the Republican leadership in Washington, carrying out their campaign strategies so faithfully that it is difficult to distinguish his promotions from their campaign commercials. For example, when Rush’s television show debuted nationally two months before the 92 election, his producer was Roger Ailes, who was Bush’s media advisor throughout the campaign. Many of the themes that Ailes had inspired earlier in the campaign showed up in identical form on Rush’s show, which resembled a program-length commercial for the Bush campaign. When asked to give equal time to his opponents, Rush responded “I am equal time!”

In 1994, not only the Rush Limbaugh Show, but hundreds of other conservative talk shows dutifully raised the issues that Newt Gingrich’s Contract Information Center faxed to them each morning about the Contract With America. Many went so far as to read them verbatim over the air. And when the Republicans captured Congress in 1994, they held a ceremony in honor of Limbaugh, naming him “an honorary member of Congress” and “the Majority Maker.” That night, the conservative propaganda machine had reached its full potential.

Of course, Roger Ailes now manipulates ‘news’ through his helm at FoxNews.

Oil agenda hurting the Bush war plans

And so the White House is trying to say something to the effect of, ‘We don’t want the oil. Honest.’ Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice..how does that go, George?

White House: U.S. Doesn’t Plan to Control Iraq’s Oil:

“The only interest the United States has in the region is furthering the cause of peace and stability … not his country’s ability to generate oil,” White House spokesman Ari Fleischer told reporters.

Iraq has oil reserves of 112 billion barrels, second only to Saudi Arabia, according to the U.S. Energy Department.

When asked if the United States would take over Iraq’s oil fields if the U.S. attacked Iraq, Fleischer responded: “No. The purpose of any plan the United States has is to make certain that Saddam Hussein complies with all U.N. resolutions.” …

When asked, Fleischer refused to say whether the U.S. military might administer Iraq’s oil fields.

“I think that it’s impossible for anybody to speculate about anything and everything that could possibly happen under any military scenario. And I wouldn’t even try to start guessing what the military may or may not do,” he said.

And then there’s this, despite the White House’s outright lies and deceptions. US sets meeting on exploiting Iraqi oil after Hussein:

(10/30/2002 – OGI: Washington) The US State Department has pushed back its planned meeting with Iraqi opposition leaders on exploiting Iraq’s oil and gas reserves after a US military offensive removes Saddam Hussein from power to early December. According to a source at the State Department, all the desired participants are not yet available.

The Bush administration wants to have a working group of 12 to 20 people focused on Iraqi oil and gas to be able to recommend to an interim government ways of restoring the petroleum sector following a military attack in order to increase oil exports to partially pay for a possible US military occupation government – further fueling the view that controlling Iraqi oil is at the heart of the Bush campaign to replace Hussein with a more compliant regime.

As the current chestnut goes, regime change starts at home. Down with the Bush military junta.

Big Brother Phones in

President To Author: Your Book Is Unpatriotic:

If Hudson is telling the truth – and there’s no reason to think he isn’t – Bush recently sent the young author a two-paragraph note, complete with his own review of “Dear Mr. President.”

“I was in shock. Very surprised,” Hudson said Tuesday. “I didn’t think it was real at first. I mean, who would? But once you hold the thing and read it, there’s no doubt in your mind. I mean, nobody could fake the authority of that letter.”

Bush’s missive, however, was not fan mail.

“The letter began by thanking me for sending the book,” Hudson said. “Also, I’m from Austin, Texas, and the president touched on the fact that I was a fellow Texan, congratulating me on my book. But he was setting me up for the one-two punch. Because he called the book unpatriotic and ridiculous and just plain bad writing. Beyond that, I’ve been instructed not to talk about the contents of the letter for the time being.”

That’s not all. Hudson says FBI agents have been hanging around at his recent book readings, and the book’s website (Gabehudson.com) is apparently being monitored by the government.

Just a reminder

That plane crashes are often not coincidental accidents. Found at whatreallyhappened.com:

CRASH OF PLANE CARRYING 12 WATERGATE PEOPLE SUSPICIOUS
[From *The Spotlight*, Feb. 14, 1994]

What really happened during the infamous “Watergate plane crash”
    at Chicago’s airport on December 8, 1972?

United Airlines flight 553 out of Washington, D.C. exploded while
landing in Chicago. Aboard were 12 people who were connected in
some way to the burgeoning Watergate scandal. Among the victims
was Dorothy Hunt, wife of former CIA man (and Watergate burglar)
    E. Howard Hunt.

Evidence indicated the plane was sabotaged, but independent
investigator Sherman Skolnick made headlines when he charged
thatthe sabotage had been covered up by the government.

Skolnick discussed his findings when he was the guest on the
December 23 broadcast of *The Spotlight*’s nightly radio call-in
talk forum, Radio Free America, with host Tom Valentine.

At the time of the crash, Valentine was a journalist working in
Chicago and became acquainted with Skolnick during the furor over
    the loss of flight 553.

According to Valentine, “It was the flight 553 affair that really
convinced me this government was corrupt. I was a meat head and
believed in our government. I knew the medical establishment
was corrupt, but this really convinced me the government was
    corrupt.”

Skolnick, who has been a regular guest on Radio Free America, and
who is an adviser to Liberty Lobby’s Populist Action Committee,
has a recorded five-minute commentary (changed several times a
week) that people may call 24 hours a day at regular long-
distance rates. The number is (312) 731-1100. Skolnick’s recorded
message brings periodic updates on matters the investigator and
his research team are working on.

An edited transcript of Valentine’s interview with Skolnick
    follows.

VALENTINE: The Watergate plane crash is the first investigation
you and I worked on together.

SKOLNICK: This subject is one of the great forbidden subjects of
this country. You are not supposed to talk publicly about
airplanes that have been sabotaged. If sabotage is ever brought
up, it’s always in some foreign country where a bomb blows up the
    airplane.

VALENTINE: Then the loss of the United Airlines flight 553 was
not just fog or pilot error or something like that.

SKOLNICK: In the history of aviation there have been a number of
situations where there was actual sabotage — not necessarily a
bomb — and that sabotage put the plane down and killed people
    for political reasons.

I started writing a book about airplane sabotage right after the
plane crash. I called it “The Watergate Plane Crash.” The reason
why was because on this one plane were 12 people connected with
    the Watergate affair.

The disaster happened exactly one month after Richard Nixon had
been re-elected. The Watergate affair had started, but it was not
    widely known at the time.

Former CIA man (and Watergate burglar) E. Howard Hunt, part of
the so-called White House Plumbers, was under arrest. It later
came out that Hunt was threatening to blow the lid off the White
House if Nixon didn’t take care of him. Hunt wanted $2 million.

What Hunt reportedly had was information tending to show that
Nixon, who was in Dallas at the time John F. Kennedy was
murdered, was complicit in the assassination. Hunt’s wife Dorothy
was carrying around “hush” money to various witnesses in an
effort to silence them about the Watergate affair.

She was on flight 553, and this time she was traveling under her
own name. She was so concerned about the baggage (which contained
$2 million worth of cashier’s checks and money orders, which some
astute people could have traced back to the Nixon White House)
that she bought an extra first class seat for her baggage (and
    the valuables therein).

The press later said there was only $10,000 in her possession,
but that was false. We know about this because of records of the
National Transportation Safety Board which had the manifest of
    the airplane.

University of Texas Student Government Opposes Iraq War

Daily Texan: SG adopts resolution opposing war

“This makes the statement that the student body of the nation’s largest university and in Bush’s hometown feels that an unprovoked war is wrong,” said SG two-year at-large Representative Jordan Buckley, author of the resolution and a key mediator in the evening’s debate.

The anti-war resolution, thought by most representatives to stand little chance of passing, condemns Saddam Hussein but opposes any pre-emptive attack against Iraq.

The bitter debate fought not only the resolution, but the assembly’s right to vote on a resolution at all.

“For those of you who feel it is inappropriate to debate foreign policy within the Student Government institution, please realize that it is more inappropriate that people die at the hands of the United States,” said Amber Novak, a journalism graduate student.
