Juneteenth

Today is Juneteenth here in Texas.

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration of the ending of slavery.

From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.

    Today Juneteenth commemorates
African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. It is a day, a week, and in some areas a month marked with celebrations, guest speakers, picnics and family gatherings. It is a time for reflection and rejoicing. It is a time for assessment, self-improvement and for planning the future. Its growing popularity signifies a level of maturity and dignity in America long over due. In cities across the country, people of all races, nationalities and religions are joining hands to truthfully acknowledge a period in our history that shaped and continues to influence our society today. Sensitized to the conditions and experiences of others, only then can we make significant and lasting improvements in our society.

Acquaintance of ‘dirty bomber’ scapegoat arrested for ‘extremist views’

From Reuters: Boy, those morons in the federal government are really grasping at straws. In another case of thought crime an Islamic Florida man was arrested for alleged ties to the so-called ‘dirty bomber’. His apparent crime is that he has what the FBI considers ‘extremist views’. That and he attended the same mosque as the dirty bomber.

Although the details of Hassoun’s affiliation with Muhajir were unclear, both men attended the same mosque in Fort Lauderdale while Muhajir lived in south Florida from 1991 to 1998.

“We have suspicions; that’s it,” a federal source told the Herald. “We are working hard right now to run this all out. We have reason to believe this man has extremist views. They were friends and they attended the same Fort Lauderdale mosque.”

FBI Found Guilty for 1990 Frameup

Via MSNBC:

A federal jury awarded $4.4 million Tuesday to two members of the environmental activist group Earth First! who claimed that Oakland police and FBI agents framed them for bombing their own car 12 years ago.

Dirty rats. They’ve been dirty their whole history. Why believe they’re doing anything differently? Who knows how much criminality they get away with on a regular basis?

Moussaoui has a secret

From the Washington Post:

Zacarias Moussaoui, the only man indicted as a Sept. 11 conspirator, has told a psychiatrist that he has an undisclosed secret and that his court-appointed lawyers want him killed to keep him from revealing it.

    …
Moussaoui told Patterson he had “specific information regarding the Sept. 11 attacks” and, according to the defense, “he claims counsel are conspiring to kill him to keep him from revealing some heretofore undisclosed secret he wants to divulge in open court.” …

Moussaoui told Patterson his lawyers “want to say I’m crazy now, then at guilt phase, he’s sane so they can impose (the) death penalty.” …

Moussaoui is charged with conspiracy to commit terrorism, pirate aircraft, destroy aircraft, use weapons of mass destruction, murder U.S. government employees and destroy property.

I think conspiracy charges are full of crap. You can charge almost anyone with conspiracy for something or other.

Interesting article on the worldwide arms industry

From the BBC:

Russia has overtaken the United States to become the world’s leading conventional arms exporter for the first time, increasing deliveries sixfold over the last five years. Russian exports rose 24% in 2001

Of course, the U.S. coincidently removed its arms embargo against India which currently receives 80% of its weaponry from Russia. Maybe they are threatened by the idea of Russia dominating the global arms industry. The Russians always had a very robust and effective educational system when it came to science and engineering. A seldom reported fact, the CIA often purchases Russian made helicopters because American made helicopters are widely held to be unsafe. Remember all those recent military helicopter and plane accidents? American-made. The CIA refuses to use the American military’s helicopters.

U.S. Continuing to Build Case for Iraq Invasion

Today the Bush administration expelled an Iraqi diplomat of the UN, Abdul Rahman I. K. Saad, who they say had been spying. One of the many shadowy, unnamed U.S. officials made this accusation:“He was engaging in activities that are incompatible with being a diplomat. He was spying. We found sufficient evidence, overwhelming evidence.”

What’s the evidence? Where is it? This is getting old. Groundless accusations just for political purposes. And U.S. officials are never giving their names so they can’t be held accountable for lies and erroneous information. They popup like mushrooms long enough to spread rumor and then they vanish. This is adept propaganda.

Whipping the proles into war mode

Rumsfeld was trying to get everyone mentally prepared for the US invasion of Iraq. The Bush administration has already iterated its strike first, investigate later policy. Everyone knows this won’t happen until right before the 2004 election season. Just watch and wait. It’ll happen then or I’m a monkey’s uncle.

Iraq issued a statement Sunday that it was ready to prove that it had no secret program to develop nuclear weapons or possessed chemical or biological weapons.

“They’re lying,” Rumsfeld said. “They have them and they continue to develop them,” he told reporters at an airport press conference in Kuwait City.

Rumsfeld is such a mouthy little bitch. I’d love to beat him in a game of air hockey though he probably cheats.

Ronald Reagan: Stool Pigeon Fascist

Good article from USA Today showing how the FBI lies, lies, lies and then when they get caught in a lie with hard evidence they finally tell the truth. What makes anyone think things are different today? I’m sure most ground level FBI agents have noble intentions, but unfortunately the FBI and the CIA are tools of murderers and thieves. In recent weeks, we have seen stories of FBI complicity with the mafia, CIA buffoonery, and now this story finally coming out despite the best attempts at killing the story.

This article also shows what an evil, contemptible piece of crap Ronald Reagan was. I would say IS but the man’s brain has long been swiss cheese. He probably can’t even wipe his own once evil ass:

The documents obtained by the Chronicle show just how extensive these activities were in California, how Kerr and others were targeted, and how eagerly Reagan worked to quash protests.

Gov. Reagan intended to mount a “psychological warfare campaign” against subversives, file tax evasion and other charges against them, and do anything else it could to restore moral order, Herbert Ellingwood, Reagan’s legal affairs secretary, told the FBI in a request for confidential information about people on campus.

The records show FBI director J. Edgar Hoover agreed to provide such information from the agency’s files.

“This has been done in the past,” the director said, “and has worked quite successfully.”

The Office of Ronald Reagan referred the Chronicle’s questions to Edwin Meese III, Reagan’s chief of staff as governor. Meese said the FBI, as far as he knew, gave Reagan no special political help, and that he did not remember planning any activities against “subversives.”

“There was never any concentrated strategy to do these things,” he said.

The documents also show that the FBI tried to protect Reagan from being implicated for lying about his own past as a member of several groups officially deemed subversive by altering his security clearance.

Reports that Reagan informed on his fellow actors at a time when the FBI was trying to root out suspected subversives have surfaced before, but were downplayed. In 1985, when the FBI released some documents about Reagan, a Reagan spokesman said he had only a “very minor” involvement with the bureau at a time when he was president of the Screen Actors Guild.

The records obtained by the Chronicle reveal who it was that Reagan and his first wife, Jane Wyman, named during a 1947 meeting with FBI agents: Larry Parks (The Jolson Story), Howard Da Silva (The Lost Weekend) and Alexander Knox (Wilson). Each was later called before the House Un-American Activities Committee and blacklisted in Hollywood.

The new documents also show Reagan’s contacts with the bureau were more extensive than he acknowledged or has been reported: Files show he repeatedly gave the FBI names of people he suspected of being communist over the years.

My favorite part is the justification for trying to destroy the lives of young americans:

In its unsuccessful battle to keep them secret, the agency had said its actions had been proper — that it had merely tried to protect civil order and national security during a time when the nation feared Communism and waged war in Vietnam.

What hubris.
