..but I really enjoyed this article. It made me feel like cultural progress has been made, and I just like the idea of scores of women buying handcuffs.

BERLIN (Reuters) – Handcuffs are the fastest selling item at five new shops tailored for women by Germany’s biggest retailer of sex merchandise, the store chain said on Wednesday.

Beate Uhse AG said handcuffs have been flying off the shelves of stores it opened this year to focus on sex toys for women, rather than the traditional male clientele.

“Women’s sexual appetites are steeped more in the realm of fantasy — they like to use their imagination more than men,” said Assia Tschernookoff, a spokeswoman for Beate Uhse at corporate headquarters in Flensburg. …

The five new shops report some 90 percent of customers have been women.

“This just goes to show that these days women know what they want and they’re not shy about getting it,” Tschernookoff said.

Around this same time last year I lost two very important people. My high-school French teacher Madame Parker who assured me that one day I would be a philosopher king and my grandmother Elizabeth who I obviously owe a great deal to, not least of which is my own existence. I miss them both very much and I am thankful that I knew them.

Have you ever caught yourself eating cereal out of a decorative ceramic bowl because you’re too lazy to wash a few dishes? Yeah, me neither.

…but I loved the movie ‘Secretary’. I thought it was incredibly honest and really, actually, romantic. It is based on a short story by Mary Gaitskill which you can read online here. Steven Shainberg, the director of ‘Secretary’, recently gave an interview on NPR’s Fresh Air which you can listen to here in Real Audio.

The workplace Halloween party was fun. I tossed back a few frosty ones and got flushed in the face. Life is good. Happy Halloween to all my friends and not-yet-friends in the ether!

Got some blow-pops (I don’t buy bad candy!) for the trick-or-treaters and carved up my jack today.

I’ve been inspired by my neighbor, Claudine, to pick up some plants for the apartment. She has all these cool looking plants and things all over the place. It makes my apartment look very shabby and boring. So, today in a bout of activity and impulsiveness I went to the local nursery and picked up a plastic pot containing a shrub. Apparently, it’s a gardenia and it’s supposed to put out some sort of blooms. I’m looking forward to that. It looks quite nice in front of my doorway. Maybe I’ll try getting some hardy thing for the inside next.
