Jody and I spent the weekend moving. It was hard work. All I can say is that I’m glad it’s over. I think I’ll pay for movers next time. It’s just too much work, especially since my plan to get rid of anything non-essential was a colossal failure.
I’m excited about the new location, but I’ll miss a lot of things about the old neighborhood like the greenery, the quietness, and the proximity to Barton Springs Pool where I love to swim.
Many things will be different, and it’s time to say goodbye to certain things that I will miss:
- I will miss living next to Mr. and Mrs. Bergstrom. Good Lutherans who always enjoy having Sarah over to visit.
- I will miss my landlord and friend, Joyce, although we have a standing date to go to church in a couple weeks. She is a strong person with a big heart.
- I will miss Sarah the cat, who I am leaving with my neighbor, Johnnie, who loves her very much. I am glad to know that Sarah will be able to stay in a safe neighborhood where she is at home and surrounded by people who care about her. We’ve had several good years together, and I hope I get to see her again real soon.
- I will miss hearing birdsong every morning in the spring and summer.
- I will miss my tit-for-tat graffitti war with Radar and Mendez. Hopefully, I will find other worthy adversaries.
We spent several hours cleaning the duplex Saturday since Joyce reminded me several times that it would have to be cleaned if I wanted to receive my full deposit back. When we dropped off the keys Sunday afternoon she told us that no one had ever left the duplex as clean as we had left it. That meant a lot to me because Joyce is not one to give artificial praise. I was very proud to have done such a good job and doubly proud that I got all my money back.
