Scalia on YOUR side

In reading about the Supreme Court decision to support local powers of eminent domain I found myself in the somewhat unusual position of agreeing with the more conservative members of the court like Scalia. Supreme Court Rules Cities May Seize Homes (via robotwisdom):

The ‘Great War’

What do we really ever know about history? What do we know about what’s happening today? How should we act when we have no way of knowing the ripples each action causes?

Winston Churchill, 1936:

40 million credit card records ganked

How are businesses going to equip themselves to deal with problems like this? Human error will always be the weakest point. ID thieves search ultimate pot of gold – databases:

In by far the largest caper reported to date, intruders recently cracked into the systems used by Atlanta-based payments processor CardSystems Solutions. The take: 40 million account records for holders of MasterCard, Visa USA, American Express and Discover cards.

A California privacy law that requires businesses and agencies to disclose thefts of personal data has heightened awareness of the issue. But the record theft underscores concern that the pace of identity theft appears to be accelerating, security experts and law enforcement officials say.

The rope swing

On my way from work I stopped to pick up my brother from where he works and we went swimming out at Town Lake below the damn near Red Bud Isle. Red Bud Isle is a park where they allow dogs to run off the leash so there were all types of dogs and dog people there. The water looked swift and chilly. The only people swimming were tan scruffy types with week old beards and blurry tattoos clutching Lone Star tall boys as their cut-offs drizzled onto the rocks and roots of the tree-lined banks. Since I was unprepared to go swimming we stopped at Target and bought a pair of cheap black trunks. I found a hidden spot in the bushes and changed out of my work clothes and we ran off to find the rope swing.

Battlefield 2 Demo

I got my first chance to play the Battlefield 2 Demo (download) last night after work. I noticed several big changes from Battlefield Vietnam and Battlefield, as well as the Desert Combat mod. Graphically they’ve added some bloom to the video to make everything have a slight haze, which adds to the realism of the game by making everything hazy as if you were outside in too much sunlight. Your field of vision is also affected by a concussion effect when you get hit by grenades or tank rounds. I spent about 30 minutes just using the anti-air weapons to kill planes. There is a neat radar lock where if a vehicle approaches you can lock onto its heat signature and launch heat-seeking anti-air missiles at it. The target can throw off some flares to prevent getting hit. It is very cool.

I want to live!

I think I broke something from laughing so hard while reading tBoCL

  1. I want to fight a Vegan: “Condition 2. You must be an all-out-level-three-Vegan (for at least three years). This means no honey in your herbal tea, not even on Spring equinox! No leather shoes, and please, don’t be a sell-out by having a sorry ass job at a conventional Café that serves low fat Tuna Club sandwiches.”
  2. Pregnantish? Take my extra Clearblue Easy!
  3. Goodnight Austin
  4. Nervous Wreck Seeks Domineering Bitch for Rebound Melee – 33: “Please be able to completely annihilate any residual faith in humanity, delusions of happiness, and sense of self worth. Depigmentation of my hair is not fully complete at this stage – and I am looking for you to finalize the process. Bonus points for initiating enough stress to drag me down the path of premature baldness, or inducing permanent stress-related gastrointestinal damage.”
  5. I ONLY had to take a leak. You didn’t need to scar me emotionally
