The Law in the City

I found out today that it is legal to own chickens in the City of Austin. There is a rooster across the street that wakes us up every morning, especially now that sunrise is so early. I may have to talk to my neighbor about it soon.

  1. Talk to your neighbor? Didn’t you recently by a BB gun?

  2. Ah, chickens. You remember where I used to live in San Antonio, Chris?

Down the block there was this old guy who owned at *least* 20 chickens. We could always hear the roosters crowing at our house. I felt sorry for his neighbors because the smell could be a bit overpowering in the summer.

I called 311 and the police came by. The cops found out where the rooster was and talked to the owner just to let him know they had received noise complaints. He said the rooster flew into his backyard a month or two ago and that he didn’t really know what to do with it and has been feeding it. He said he would get rid of it. No need to shoot it with my BB gun.

YES, I REMEMBER. I remember when you lived in Lubbock too.

  4. I know a guy named Newman who can take care of that rooster. He does clean jobs.

  5. He was crowing this morning, Gabe. May need to call Newman.
